LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Jun, 2026) On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, price control magistrates have continued enforcement operations across the province to ensure the availability of essential commodities at officially notified rates.
According to a spokesperson for the food Safety and Consumer Protection Department, a total of 1,920,206 inspections were carried out across Punjab from May 3 to June 1, 2026. During this period, action was taken against 11,808 shops and business centres for failing to display official rate lists, while 103,588 cases of overcharging were detected.
The spokesperson said that fines exceeding Rs36.695 million were imposed for violations including overcharging and non-display of price lists. In addition, 161 FIRs were registered, while 5,790 individuals were arrested during the enforcement drive.
He informed that on June 1 alone, 75,719 inspections were conducted across the province. Authorities identified 527 locations where rate lists were not displayed, while action was taken in 3,856 cases of overcharging.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Fines amounting to Rs1.733 million were imposed on the day, with two FIRs registered and 191 individuals arrested.
The spokesperson added that price control magistrates are conducting daily monitoring of markets, bazaars, fruit and vegetable markets, and other commercial centres to ensure that essential commodities are available to consumers at government-notified rates.
He said the department has reiterated that indiscriminate action will continue against hoarding, profiteering, overcharging, and failure to display official rate lists. All district administrations and price control magistrates have been directed to remain fully active in safeguarding consumer rights and maintaining price stability.
The spokesperson further said that, in line with the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, protection of consumer interests remains among the government’s top priorities, and strict legal action against profiteers will continue without any leniency.
