Rural Sindh patients deserve London level care free of cost: Dr Raheem

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) The Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) is providing free, advanced medical treatment including liver, lung and bone marrow transplants to patients from across Pakistan, officials said.

Located 400 kilometres from Karachi, the Sindh government run hospital treats thousands of patients daily from Sindh, KPK Punjab and Balochistan due to its world class treatment facilities free of cost as well central location.

GIMS houses Pakistan’s largest Liver Transplant Centre, which provides free liver transplants. The Center of Hematology & Bone Marrow Transplant has performed thousands of bone marrow transplants free of cost.

The Gambat Heart Center offers angiography, angioplasty, open-heart surgery and TAVI procedures without charges. The hospital also runs the only Lung Transplant Center in Pakistan.

Free cochlear implant surgery and devices are provided for children born deaf and mute.

A 24-hour Emergency & Rapid Response Center, equipped with CT scan, X-ray, ECG, ultrasound and a trauma operating theatre, caters to accident victims given the hospital’s proximity to the National Highway.

The hospital also has a LINAC machine for radiation therapy for cancer patients.

Speaking to APP on Wednesday, Dr Raheem Bux Bhatti said the vision behind GIMS was clear a rural Sindh patient also deserves facilities like London and New York, and that too completely free. He said the institute was established to ensure that poverty did not deny anyone access to world-class treatment.

He said GIMS performs complex procedures including transplants that cost millions in private hospitals completely free of charge. Patients are also provided accommodation and food.

The Sindh government has termed GIMS a model for free public healthcare in Pakistan.
