The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) on Friday carried out a special cleanliness drive in mosques across the city as part of the Punjab government’s “Clean Punjab” programme and Zero Waste Campaign

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) on Friday carried out a special cleanliness drive in mosques across the city as part of the Punjab government’s “Clean Punjab” programme and Zero Waste Campaign.

The RWMC teams conducted thorough cleaning of mosques and surrounding areas, and sprayed disinfectant lime to ensure a hygienic environment for worshipers. Routine sanitation measures, including drain cleaning, timely waste collection and street sweeping, were also maintained during the operation.

An RWMC spokesperson said that the Company’s teams were working continuously in both urban and rural areas to improve overall cleanliness standards and provide a healthier environment to residents.

As part of an anti-littering awareness campaign, special announcements were made in mosques during Friday congregations, urging citizens to maintain cleanliness and support the Zero Waste initiative.

The worshipers were informed about the importance of proper waste disposal and encouraged not to throw garbage in open spaces.

The Company appealed to residents to avoid dumping waste in open plots, roads, markets, streets, neighborhoods, graveyards and educational institutions, and instead use designated dustbins or hand over waste to sanitation staff.

“For any complaints or information related to cleanliness, citizens can contact the helpline 1139, which remains operational,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesman reiterated that public cooperation was essential for the success of the Clean Punjab Programme, adding that a clean environment was key to a healthy life.
