RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th May, 2026) The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), acting on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has launched a city-wide cleanliness and awareness campaign ahead of Eid-Ul-Azha 2026.

As part of the campaign, awareness camps are being established across the city to educate residents on the proper disposal of sacrificial waste during the Eid holidays.

According to an RWMC spokesperson, door-to-door awareness drives are also underway, while pamphlets and waste bags are being distributed at markets, mosques and recreational areas.

The RWMC urged citizens not to dispose of animal waste in streets or open spaces and advised them to place waste in designated bags before depositing it in waste containers or handing it over to sanitation workers.

The company warned that action would be taken against violators, with fines of up to Rs 50,000 for dumping waste in open areas.

The spokesperson said the helpline, 1139, would remain operational round the clock for complaints and guidance.

As part of the campaign, RWMC communication teams established special awareness camps outside Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University and Rawalpindi Women University, where pamphlets and waste bags were distributed among students and members of the public.

In addition, awareness materials were distributed to worshippers at mosques across the city after Friday prayers. Religious scholars and prayer leaders were also requested to urge citizens in their sermons to maintain cleanliness during Eid-Ul-Azha and cooperate with sanitation staff.

The spokesperson said maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment during Eid-Ul-Azha was a collective responsibility. He added that sanitation staff would continue working round the clock during the Eid holidays and appealed to residents to dispose of waste at designated points and cooperate with field teams to help make Rawalpindi a “zero-waste city”.
