RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Mar, 2026) On the occasion of International Zero Waste Day, observed on March 30, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), under the Suthra Punjab Program, is promoting the concept of zero waste through anti-littering campaigns, cleanliness drives, and public awareness activities across the city.

The objective of the day is to raise awareness among citizens about reducing waste, reusing items, and recycling materials in order to protect the environment and build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable society.

The RWMC teams are ensuring exemplary sanitation arrangements in both urban and rural areas while encouraging citizens to dispose of waste at designated points, reduce the use of plastic, and adopt environmentally friendly habits. Through the anti-littering campaign, residents are being educated that small actions such as keeping homes, streets, markets, and places of worship clean play a vital role in achieving a zero-waste city.

Under the Suthra Punjab Program, efforts are being intensified to improve sanitation systems through manual sweeping, timely waste lifting, and awareness campaigns aimed at maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Citizens have been urged to make cleanliness a part of their daily routine and actively support the zero-waste mission by demonstrating responsible behavior.

RWMC CEO Rana Sajid Safdar, in his statement on Sunday, said that International Zero Waste Day serves as a reminder that collective efforts are essential for environmental protection. He emphasized that waste reduction, promotion of recycling, and improved sanitation practices can help control pollution while ensuring a clean and safe environment for future generations. He further urged citizens to actively participate in cleanliness and awareness initiatives and adopt proper waste disposal practices.

Additionally, on March 28, in observance of Earth Hour, RWMC, in line with Punjab government directives, switched off non-essential lights at its offices across the division from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm as a gesture of environmental responsibility and commitment to energy conservation.
