Saif Ur Rehman calls for proactive steps as monsoon threats intensify

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) Coordinator to the Federal Tax Ombudsman Saif Ur Rehman on Sunday called for prompt action and effective precautionary measures to minimize the risks of floods and landslides as forecasts indicate heavier-than-usual rainfall during the ongoing monsoon season.

In a statement issued here, he urged the authorities to activate effective early warning systems to alert vulnerable communities living near rivers, streams and hilly areas well in advance about potential threats.

He also stressed the need for the immediate clearance of drainage channels, strengthening of embankments and deployment of emergency response teams in flood-prone regions to deal with any untoward situation.

Saif Ur Rehman appealed to citizens to strictly follow weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk areas and fully cooperate with local authorities during emergency operations.

He said public awareness and community participation were essential to reducing the impact of natural disasters and emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among rescue services, district administrations and other relevant departments to minimize the loss of life and property.

Expressing optimism, he said that with proactive planning, improved coordination and timely preventive measures, Pakistan could effectively mitigate the adverse effects of monsoon-related floods and landslides while protecting lives, infrastructure and livelihoods.
