RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) Punjab Health Minister, Khawaja Salman Rafique on Friday said the sanitation system had improved significantly across the province under the “Suthra Punjab” vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi had set a new benchmark by successfully carrying out the Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness operation, hee expressed these views while speaking to the media during a visit to the central control room established at the SPA head office.

Chairman Chief Minister Inspection Team, Raja Muhammad Hanif, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak, Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Abdul Rehman Khan, Assistant Commissioner City Iman Zafar, Assistant Commissioner Cantt Saad-ur-Rehman and other officials were also present on the occasion.

During the visit, the provincial minister was given a detailed briefing on the Eid-ul-Azha sanitation operation, monitoring mechanisms, grievance redressal system and arrangements for waste disposal.

Recalling earlier sanitation reforms, he said that during the tenure of former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Turkish solid waste management model had been studied, following which the Lahore Waste Management Company was established.

He said he had the honour of serving as the first chairman of the company.

The minister said maintaining cleanliness in a society where littering remained common was a major challenge, adding that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had always taken practical measures to improve sanitation services.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the “Suthra Punjab Programme” had emerged as a successful public welfare initiative producing positive results across the province.

Khawaja said SPA Rawalpindi was effectively competing with its own past performance, as the institution had consistently remained among the leading sanitation organisations in the province.

The provincial minister also paid tribute to sanitation workers, officers and administrative staff for performing their duties responsibly despite intense heat and continuous work during Eid holidays.

He urged citizens to cooperate fully with the Punjab government and relevant institutions in maintaining cleanliness to help ensure a healthy and clean environment.
