Sargodha University hosts fellowship ceremony to fortify Pak-China academic ties

SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) The University of Sargodha (UoS) hosted a fellowship award ceremony, underscoring growing academic collaboration between Pakistan and China.

The event was organised by the Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS), in collaboration with partner institutions including the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan, the Pakistan Research Centre for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), and the Institute for a Community with Shared Future (ICSF), Communication University of China (CUC).

The fellowship programme, involving 11 academic departments, produced over 100 research publications, reflecting strong scholarly engagement. A total of 77 participants were shortlisted, of whom 45 completed the programme and received certificates for meeting academic requirements. The initiative aimed to promote research excellence, innovation and cross-cultural understanding.

Speaking on the occasion, Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of PRCCSF, highlighted the importance of building a “shared future” through academic cooperation, urging students to benefit from international learning opportunities. Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, Director PICS, presented an overview of the fellowship, terming it instrumental in enhancing research capacity and analytical skills among participants.

In a video message, Dr. Li Huiliang, Director ICSF CUC, appreciated the joint efforts of partner institutions and reaffirmed commitment to expanding academic partnerships and exchange programmes with Pakistani universities.

Participants shared their experiences, describing the fellowship as a valuable platform for research exposure, international collaboration and intercultural learning. A cultural segment featuring Chinese songs added colours to the ceremony, symbolising deepening people-to-people connections.

Additionally, students of the Chinese Language Programme presented Chinese songs during the ceremony, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the event and symbolising the deepening cultural ties between Pakistan and China.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Amir Ali, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, as the chief guest. He praised the organisers for providing meaningful academic opportunities and stressed the role of such initiatives in preparing students to meet global challenges. He also distributed certificates among successful participants.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-China cooperation in education, research and cultural exchanges, while reinforcing long-term academic partnerships.
