SCCI seeks compensation package for traders affected by gas blast in Qissa Khawani

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jun, 2026) Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has urged the provincial government to announce a special compensation package for traders affected by the gas pipeline explosion in historic Qissa Khawani Bazaar Peshawar.

The SCCI president Junaid Altaf, senior vice president Muhammad Nadeem and vice president Sabir Ahmad Bangash in a joint statement issued here on Wednesday stated that traders suffered millions of rupee loss due to gas pipeline explosion in Qissa Khawani Bazaar but no compensation was announced by the government for them.

Traders have played an important role in economic development through paying a number of taxes, while they have generated employment for many people, senior office bearers remarked. They said that sustaining business and industry in current unfavorable conditions was not less than a holy war [Jihad] in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The SCCI office bearers emphasized the need for provision of compensation for the traders affected by the Gas pipeline blast in Qissa Khawani Bazaar on urgent grounds so that they will restore their businesses and continue to play a role in development of the economy.

President Junaid Altaf said that traders had already been in difficult situations due to the prevailing scenario. He added that industrial growth had slowed down, which had caused mass level unemployment in K-P.

The SCCI chief said while keeping in view the current situation, it is highly crucial to provide financial relief and facilities to the trading community on priority basis.

The country’s economy is heading to stabilize due to the collection of various taxes from the business community so that the traders must not be left alone in their difficult situation, President Junaid Altaf stressed.

The SCCI chief urged the provincial government, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi and relevant institutions to immediately announce a compensation package for the traders affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Qissa Khawani Bazar Peshawar.
