Secretary reviews price control enforcement, vows strict action against overcharging

profiteering across the province on the special directives of Chief Minister Maryam

Nawaz Sharif.

The initiatives were reviewed at a meeting chaired by Secretary food Safety and Consumer

Protection Dr Kiran Khurshid to assess the monthly performance of Price Control Magistrates (PCMs),

here on Monday. Deputy commissioners from all districts participated in the meeting via video link.

Reviewing the performance, Dr Kiran Khurshid commended the Price Control Magistrates of Rawalpindi, Okara, Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura and Multan for their outstanding performance. She, however, directed the PCMs of Attock, Murree, Toba Tek Singh and Dera Ghazi Khan to improve their performance without delay.

The secretary said that, in line with the chief minister’s vision, no compromise would be made on the official prices of roti, flour and other essential commodities.

She directed all deputy commissioners to further strengthen the performance of Consumer Protection Councils in their respective districts.

The meeting also evolved a comprehensive strategy to prevent fake challans and misuse of mobile IDs during inspections to ensure transparency in the monitoring system. Participants reviewed proposals to further upgrade the Qeemat App to improve public access to price information and consumer relief.

Dr Kiran Khurshid said ensuring the availability of quality essential commodities at affordable prices remained the government’s top priority. She directed field officers to personally inspect markets and take indiscriminate action against profiteers and hoarders.
