Security of churches on high alert, police instructed to ensure arrangements

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2026) In view of Christian devotional prayer programs in churches across the province, security has been put on high alert and the police have been instructed to ensure foolproof arrangements.

IG Punjab has ordered RPOs, DPOs and other senior officers to further tighten security and said that supervisory officers should themselves review the arrangements of churches and important places. According to IG Punjab Abdul Karim, additional police personnel should be deployed at sensitive churches, while snipers have also been instructed to be deployed.

Dolphin Squad, PRU and Elite Force teams will continue effective patrolling around churches.

He stressed that the deployed officers and personnel should remain alert at all times and keep a close watch on miscreants. Search and sweep operations around churches and Christian settlements have also been ordered to continue. The IG Punjab urged the clerics, Christian community and members of peace committees to play their role in promoting interfaith harmony.
