Security tightened across AJK ahead of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have intensified security arrangements across the region, including Mirpur district, ahead of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations to ensure the maintenance of peace and public safety during the religious festival being observed on Wednesday across Pakistan.

Official sources told APP on Tuesday that, on the directives of the AJK government, additional police personnel and security staff headed by magistrates have been deployed at sensitive and busy locations, including markets, shopping centres, and major public places. Authorities said the enhanced measures were aimed at maintaining law and order and effectively responding to any untoward situation during the Eid holidays.

The sources said police have been placed on high alert to ensure foolproof security at mosques of all sects, shopping malls, and other crowded areas throughout the state.

Security patrols have also been intensified across Mirpur district and other towns and villages of the region, while plain-clothes personnel have been assigned to monitor suspicious activities and keep a close watch on anti-social elements.

Officials further stated that Azad Jammu and Kashmir continues to enjoy a peaceful environment marked by inter-sect harmony, religious tolerance, and brotherhood among people of different faiths and sects. They added that the prevailing atmosphere of unity and coexistence has traditionally enabled citizens across the region to celebrate their religious festivals in a secure and conducive environment.
