ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of National Assembly Sehar Kamran on Friday paid rich tribute to the unwavering dedication and invaluable contributions of Pakistan’s labour community, recognizing them as a driving force behind the country’s economic growth and national development.
Marking International Labour Day, she said workers as the backbone of the national economy and stressed the urgent need for concrete measures to address key challenges faced by the labour force.
She called for decisive action against child labour, greater recognition and protection of women workers, and enhanced support systems for labourers navigating modern-day hardships.
“Labourers are a true asset to any nation, as they invest their blood and sweat in its progress. There must be no discrimination between blue-collar and white-collar workers, as all contribute equally to nation-building,” she added.
Highlighting the realities faced by workers, Sehar Kamran added, “Today, we celebrate the relentless dedication of our labourers. Their efforts build our cities, cultivate our lands, and sustain our daily lives. Despite this, they continue to face immense challenges, including rising inflation, climate change impacts, water scarcity, and unfair market practices.”
She emphasized that such resilience deserves meaningful support through fair wages, robust social security, accessible healthcare, and inclusive policies that guarantee a dignified standard of living.
Sehar Kamran urged the government, institutions, and society at large to stand united with the labour class, ensure workplace safety in the face of climate challenges, eradicate child labour, and empower women workers as part of a collective effort towards a stronger and more prosperous Pakistan.
