BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) A seminar titled “Pakistan: Global Peacemaker” was held at Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall, Abbasia Campus of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, bringing together senior officials, academicians, and students to discuss Pakistan’s role in promoting global peace.
Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia was the chief guest, while Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran presided over the event.
Addressing the seminar, the Commissioner said that Pakistan’s contributions to global peace are widely recognized, noting that over 200,000 Pakistani soldiers have participated in around 40 international peace missions, reflecting the country’s longstanding commitment to peacekeeping efforts.
Deputy Commissioner Syed Hassan Raza emphasized the resilience of Pakistan and highlighted the role of youth as a source of hope and strength for the nation’s future.
In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran stated that Pakistan continues to serve as a messenger of global peace. He highlighted recent diplomatic efforts that helped ease international tensions, terming them a significant achievement for the country’s leadership.
He added that the nation stands united with the government and armed forces in promoting peace and stability. He also reaffirmed the university’s tradition of standing with the nation on key national and international issues.
Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti noted that peace is essential for development and prosperity, while conflicts only bring destruction. She remarked that Pakistan has consistently demonstrated its commitment to peace through both leadership and public support.
Chairman Department of Public Administration Dr. Shahbaz Ali Khan highlighted global concerns over rising geopolitical tensions and fears of nuclear conflict, adding that Pakistan’s peace initiatives have been widely appreciated at the international level.
Dr. Shakeel Akhtar of the Department of Political Science also spoke on regional and global dynamics, particularly developments in the middle East.
The seminar also featured national songs presented by students, adding a patriotic spirit to the event. It was attended by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Rauf, Registrar Muhammad Shaji-ur-Rehman, Deans, faculty members, and a large number of students.
