Seminar highlights role of Girl Guides in empowering young women

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) A seminar on the Girl Guides was organised by the Unique Group of Institutions (UGIs) in collaboration with the Pakistan Girl Guides Association at the Dr Nisar Ahmed Rana Auditorium on Thursday.

The seminar was chaired by Unique Group Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan Khurram, while Punjab Social Protection Authority, Vice Chairperson Jahan Ara Wattoo, attended as the chief guest.

Among other distinguished guests were Member of the Provincial Assembly Begum Zakia Shah Nawaz, tennis player Ushna Suhail and Pakistan Girl Guides Association Programme Officer, Tahira Sultan.

A documentary highlighting the history and significance of the Girl Guides movement in Pakistan was also screened during the event.

Addressing the seminar, Professor Abdul Mannan said the objective of Girl Guides camping training was to empower female students socially and equip them with essential life skills. He said such training promoted the spirit of helping others among young girls, which was also in line with the teachings of islam.

He added that the UGIs not only fulfilled the academic needs of its students but also encouraged their participation in extracurricular activities such as the Girl Guides programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Jahan Ara Wattoo said the younger generation was the guarantor of Pakistan’s future and that female students had a particularly important role in this regard. She stressed the need for girls to strengthen themselves to effectively face social challenges and contribute towards a brighter future for the country.

Begum Zakia and tennis player Ushna Suhail also addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of character-building and leadership development among young women.

Earlier, Programme Officer Tahira Sultan briefed the students on Girl Guides camping and shed light on its various aspects, including leadership, discipline, teamwork and community service.

The seminar was attended by Unique Group Rector Professor Amjad Ali Khan, Unique Group Vice Chairman Afif Ashraf Siddiqui, Director Academics Professor Waseem Anwar Chaudhry, Director Administration Muhammad Abdullah, along with a large number of parents, teachers and students.
