A Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) team on Monday conducted a surprise inspection of Civil Hospital Sukkur and expressed concern over shortcomings in waste management practices

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th May, 2026) A Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) team on Monday conducted a surprise inspection of Civil Hospital Sukkur and expressed concern over shortcomings in waste management practices.

On the directives of SEPA, Director General, Waqar Hussain Phulpoto, District In-charge Sukkur Gul Amir Sumbal, along with his team, visited the hospital.

Hospital administration briefed the team on available medical facilities, operational procedures, and overall performance. The SEPA team carried out a detailed review of the hospital’s waste management system, examining the segregation, collection, storage, transportation, and disposal of waste, along with an inspection of the incinerators.

The visit aimed to assess compliance with environmental laws and review the hospital’s waste management system.

However, the team noted several major lapses in full implementation of the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014, including a non-functional incinerator plant, and expressed concern particularly over improper segregation and unsafe disposal of hazardous medical waste.

District Incharge, Gul Amir Sumbal directed the hospital administration to take immediate corrective measures in line with the rules. These included making the incinerator plant operational at the earliest, ensuring timely waste segregation, safe storage, and eco friendly disposal.

He further instructed the hospital administration to submit a compliance report to the SEPA Sukkur office within seven days, detailing all measures taken. Failure to comply would result in legal action, he warned.
