On 27 July 1948 during the First Kashmir War at Tilpatra, Azad Kashmir, Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed became the first Pakistani to be recipient of Nishan-e-Haider after embracing martyrdom in the line of duty for freedom of Kashmir.
