MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) At least seven people lost their lives after an overloaded three-wheeler rickshaw skidded off a mountainous road and plunged into a deep ravine in the Khurshidabad area of Haveli Kahuta district in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, police officials confirmed on Friday.
According to police, the ill-fated vehicle carrying tourists was returning from a recreational trip when it met the accident at Mana Mor late Thursday evening. Two passengers, including the driver, died on the spot, while five critically injured persons were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Haveli Kahuta for emergency treatment.
Officials said the seriously injured victims were later referred to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, where they succumbed to their injuries.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The deceased were identified as Iftikhar son of Bilal, Idrees son of Inayat Ullah, Shahzeb son of Aurangzeb, Aaqib son of Hidayat Ullah, Omer son of Iqbal Khan, Faisal son of Iqbal Kiyani, and Waqar son of Riaz Khan.
Rescue teams, local administration officials, and residents rushed to the site soon after the accident and launched a rescue operation to retrieve the victims and shift them to hospitals. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore announced two days of mourning in Haveli district on May 29 and 30 over the tragic loss of lives. Haveli is the native electoral constituency of the AJK Prime Minister.
