TALAGANG, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2026) Heavy rainfall accompanied by an intense hailstorm struck the suburban village of Pera Jangla near Talagang yesterday, severely damaging the standing wheat crop and leaving farmers facing substantial financial losses, triggering concern across the area.

According to details, the sudden downpour combined with large-sized hailstones caused extensive damage to the mature wheat crop standing in the fields. The intensity of the hailstorm was so severe that wheat spikes were knocked off the plants and fell to the ground, raising fears of a significant decline in overall production.

Meanwhile, wheat that had already been harvested and left in the fields was completely soaked by the rain and subsequently spoiled, putting months of farmers’ hard work at risk.

Local farmers stated that this unexpected weather disaster could push them into a serious economic crisis, as most households in the area rely heavily on this crop for their livelihood.

They also appealed to the Agriculture Department to conduct an urgent survey of the affected areas to assess the actual damage and ensure timely relief to farmers.

Environmental and agricultural experts have attributed the increasing frequency of such unusual weather events to climate change.

They explained that the global rise in temperatures is largely linked to the continuous expansion of industrial production, which generates significant waste—particularly the release of greenhouse gases from industrial plants into the atmosphere—disrupting natural weather patterns.

Experts have called on the government to take necessary steps to reduce emissions, strictly enforce environmental regulations in the industrial sector, and provide farmers with modern agricultural support systems and timely weather advisories to minimize the impact of similar disasters in the future.
