ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jun, 2026) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Shamaila Rana on Sunday described the Federal budget for 2026–27 as a balanced, comprehensive and pro-poor document, saying it reflects the prime minister’s “sound economic strategy and concern for public welfare” despite challenging economic conditions.

Participating in the National Assembly budget debate, she said the core objective of the budget was to open new avenues for investment in the country, enabling the private sector to grow and creating wider employment opportunities for youth.

She said the government had taken several major decisions aimed at reducing the burden on the common man.

She said that all taxes on solar panels had been completely abolished to promote clean energy and provide citizens with affordable alternative electricity sources.

She added that significant relief had also been extended to the agriculture sector, which she described as the backbone of the economy, through the elimination of taxes on agricultural labour and related activities, ensuring direct benefits for farmers.

The MNA further said federal excise duty had been fully abolished to boost the real estate and business sectors, while major concessions had been given in property valuation taxes.

She said tax relief had also been provided to overseas Pakistanis by abolishing taxes on overseas property, aimed at encouraging investment from abroad.

The lawmaker observed that an 18 per cent tax on shipping had also been withdrawn to facilitate trade and improve import-export activity in the country.

She termed the removal of these taxes a “bold step” at a time when global economies were under pressure.

Referring to the international economic environment, she said rising tensions between Iran and the United States had led to volatility in global petroleum markets and an increase in oil prices worldwide.

Despite this, she added, the government had protected low-income groups by providing targeted subsidies to shield them from the full impact of inflation.

She urged opposition members to avoid political point-scoring and instead present constructive suggestions on the budget so that the national economy could be further strengthened.
