Shia, Sunni leaders pledge sectarian harmony ahead of Muharram in Hangu

KOHAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) Regional Police Officer Irfan Tariq and Commissioner Syed Mutasim Billah visited Kurram district on Sunday to hold a jirga at Balishkhel Fort in Sadda, focusing on ensuring a peaceful Muharramul Haram.

The jirga brought together tribal elders, law enforcement representatives, district administration officials, and religious scholars from both Shia and Sunni sects.

Together, participants discussed critical aspects of regional law and order, security measures, public cooperation, and coordination for upcoming processions and religious gatherings.

During the session, scholars and leaders from both sects pledged their full cooperation to promote brotherhood, peace, and sectarian harmony throughout the holy month.

They emphasized that eternal sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain and martyrs of Karbala serves as a universal message of unity, patience, and mutual respect, promising that all schools of thought would work together to uphold these values.

Addressing the gathering, RPO Irfan Tariq and Commissioner Syed Mutasim Billah stressed that maintaining peace and protecting lives and property of citizens was a collective responsibility.

They assured attendees that district administration, police, and security forces are executing a coordinated strategy to ensure all Muharram programs proceed safely.

Appreciating positive role of local leaders, jirga concluded with a mutual agreement to take decisive, effective action against any mischievous elements attempting to spread sectarian division.
