The most recent propaganda film by Aditya Dhar against Pakistan, Dhurandhar 2, has suffered a huge legal setback. An FIR was lodged by a Mumbai police station against the actors Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan and the film director. The Sikh community claims that a certain scene disrespected the sacred Gurbani, which provoked the protests in the whole country and the necessity of the immediate apology.
The Indian movie Dhurandhar 2 is breaking box office records in India, but its success now carries a heavy legal burden. Gurjot Singh Keer, President of “Sikhs in Maharashtra,” filed a formal complaint at the Mulund Police Station. He claims a scene featuring R. Madhavan reciting sacred verses from the Dasam Granth while smoking is “blasphemous.”
The line of the verse, “Soora so pehchaniye jo lade deen ke het“, is of a very historical significance. Keer underlines that Gurbani is not a movie dialogue, but a sacred text. He claims that it is extremely insensitive to match it with tobacco which is strictly forbidden in Sikhism.
This anger grew due to an AI-generated poster that went viral. It was the image of a Sikh with a cigarette in his hand. Though the creators of this movie made it clear that the poster was a fan creation and not an official one, the damage was already done. The Sikh society now requires:
- An unconditional public apology from Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh, and R. Madhavan.
- Immediate removal or modification of the offensive scene.
- A suspension of screenings if demands remain unmet.
R. Madhavan Issues Clarification
As the Dhurandhar 2 controversy trends, R. Madhavan released a video statement. He explained that he extinguished the cigarette before reciting the lines. He insisted no smoke is visible on screen during the recitation. However, protesters remain firm, calling for a formal apology to the SGPC.
