KARACHI:
The Sindh government on Thursday announced that all public and private educational institutions in the province would operate six days a week after reopening on August 1 following the end of summer vacations. “It is hereby notified that all public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall observe a six-day working week (Monday to Saturday) with effect from August 1, 2026, till further orders,” said a notification issued by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department dated July 29, 2026. The decision came as schools reopened after a two-month summer break. In May, the Sindh government had announced that summer vacations for schools across the province would begin on June 1 and continue until July 31. Earlier in March, the Sindh government had announced that schools across the province would remain closed from March 16 to 31. The decision was taken in view of the Middle East crisis due to the US-Israel war against Iran. Later, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that all educational institutions across the province would continue to operate as usual, with closures observed only on Saturdays.
