SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Mar, 2026) Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the construction of a new bridge over the Indus River connecting Sukkur and Rohri, aiming to alleviate traffic pressure on the historic Lansdowne Bridge and enhance connectivity in the region.
According to handout issued here on Wednesday, the bridge, to be built under the PPP model, will be approximately 1.5 kilometers long with multiple lanes, accommodating heavy commercial vehicles and pedestrian pathways. The project is expected to provide a vital link between Sukkur, Rohri, and surrounding areas.
The CM also reviewed the progress on the Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway, which is 88% complete and set to be fully operational by April 2026. Additionally, the installation of solar-powered streetlights on a 4.5 km elevated section was approved to ensure safety and security.
The PPP Policy board also approved reforms to enhance transparency and attract private investment in infrastructure projects, including new rules for evaluating abnormal bids and a framework for unsolicited proposals.
