KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Zulfikar Ali Shah on Saturday categorically rejected a claim made by India's Ministry of Culture, saying that the claim on Mohenjo-daro is historically and culturally inaccurate and without foundation.

Taking to X social platform, he said, "Mohenjo-daro, in Larkano Sindh, is one of the principal urban centers of the Indus Valley Civilization, located in present-day Sindh, Pakistan."

"Given that large parts of the Indus Valley Civilization extended across regions that now lie within both Pakistan and India, it is neither historically accurate nor academically sound to make exclusive modern national claims over a civilization that predates contemporary nation-states by thousands of years," he said.

He furthervsaid, "We further emphasize that iconic artifacts excavated from Mohenjo-daro, including the celebrated “Dancing Girl, Sambara" statuette, are integral to the cultural heritage of Sindh and Pakistan and their rightful provenance should be acknowledged."

He said, "Sindh government rejects any attempt to misrepresent or exclusively appropriate the heritage of Mohenjo-daro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a priceless legacy of the Indus Valley Civilization that is an integral part of Pakistan's cultural heritage and flourished on the land of present-day Pakistan."
