Sindh education dept to introduce facial recognition attendance system

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 22nd, 2026) The Sindh education Department has decided to introduce a facial recognition-based attendance system as part of efforts to improve transparency and accountability within the department.

The move is aimed at ensuring accurate attendance records while taking action against absentee employees and staff suspected of possessing fake academic degrees.

According to sources within the Education Department, the Finance Division has been facing difficulties after receiving a large number of pre-retirement applications from employees.

The sources said around 15,000 teaching and non-teaching staff members have applied for early retirement, creating administrative and financial challenges for the department.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a verification process of academic degrees of employees recruited by the Sindh Education Department between 1989 and 2020. The exercise is intended to identify any cases involving forged or invalid qualifications.
