KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jun, 2026) Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, while addressing the laptop distribution ceremony for students at Karachi Metropolitan University as Chief Guest under the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, said that he wanted to speak to those young people who dream, nurture aspirations and continuously strive to build a brighter future for themselves.
He said that the medical profession is a noble field that extends beyond treatment and serves as a means of guiding society and serving humanity. He emphasized that doctors should promote social awareness and the spirit of public service alongside their professional responsibilities.
The Governor Sindh said that the Prime Minister's Youth Programme is not limited to slogans but is providing practical guidance, opportunities and pathways for the advancement of young people. He noted that the global demand for skilled and trained professionals continues to grow and that Pakistani youth have the potential to achieve distinction at the international level through their talent and abilities.
He said that the present era is defined by technology, with modern machinery and digital systems rapidly transforming various sectors, including healthcare. He stressed that quality healthcare and professional growth cannot be achieved without adapting to modern technology.
The Governor urged students to continue pursuing higher education, embrace research and innovation, and maintain a lifelong connection with their alma mater. He said that becoming a doctor should not merely be a means of financial success but a commitment to serving humanity and improving society.
He further stated that promoting quality, accountability and performance within educational institutions is essential, and that institutions should remain focused on education, research and national development, free from political influence.
The Governor said that islam is a complete code of life that guarantees legitimate rights to all segments of society, including men, women, children and employees, while promoting the principles of justice, knowledge and service.
Earlier, Sindh Coordinator of the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, Dr Fahad Shafiq, said that 20,000 laptops had been distributed among students of various universities so far this year under the PMYP, and that the distribution process was being carried out strictly on merit.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He informed the audience that a total of 100,000 laptops would be distributed among high-achieving students of public sector universities, adding that there were plans to increase this number to 200,000 next year.
Dr Fahad Shafiq further stated that students were also being provided access to low-markup financing facilities for obtaining laptops worth up to Rs 400,000, enabling them to become part of the digital economy.
He said that digital laboratories and incubators were being established at various universities to create entrepreneurial opportunities for young people, while financial support of up to Rs 20 million would be available for startups.
He added that the Digital Youth Hub was facilitating access to opportunities in entrepreneurship, education and employment, while financing facilities of up to Rs 20 million were also available for the establishment of clinics and hospitals.
Dr Fahad Shafiq said that support was also being extended to the sports sector under the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, while various scholarship opportunities were being made available to young people through the Digital Youth Hub.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University, Dr Waseem Qazi, briefed participants on the university's modern facilities and academic environment. He said that providing quality education and a contemporary learning environment remained the institution's foremost priority.
He stated that work on modern academic and infrastructural initiatives at Karachi Metropolitan University was progressing rapidly to provide students with educational opportunities in line with international standards.
PML-N Sindh President Social Media Khurram Abbas Bhatti also addressed the ceremony.
Later, Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi distributed laptops among the students and reaffirmed the collective commitment to supporting the educational and professional development of the youth.
