HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Sindh senior minister and provincial minister for information, transport and mass transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday said that the Sindh government had completed all necessary arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, with special measures taken for procession routes in Hyderabad and across the province, while security had been further tightened.

Talking to media persons at Rawal House, Rahuki, the senior minister said that meetings had been held with religious scholars and organizers to finalize all arrangements for Muharram.

He said that just as the Shia community organizes religious observances during Muharram in Sindh, the Sunni community also does so in the same spirit. He remarked that there was a need to learn lessons from the incident of Karbala, adding that people across Sindh, irrespective of sectarian affiliations, pay tribute to Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions.

Memon said the Sindh government had made effective arrangements throughout the province and that the law and order situation remained satisfactory, while additional measures had also been taken to ensure peace during Muharram.

Commenting on the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, he said there had been no cut in the NFC share, the provinces had adjusted their shares according to priorities. He added that a reduced share would naturally result in a smaller development budget, while the Sindh government remained committed to public welfare initiatives.

Criticizing the opposition, he said its members had not even read the budget document and had resorted to creating a disturbance before walking out of the assembly.

Referring to infrastructure needs, Memon said that since imports and exports were handled through Karachi, a motorway from Karachi to Sukkur was essential. He expressed hope that commitments made in this regard would be fulfilled.

He said the Sindh government was implementing development projects in various cities of the province. More than 3,000 kilometres of roads had already been constructed, while additional Pink Scooties would also be distributed. He added that the government was bringing 500 electric vehicles (EV) buses and that double-decker buses would also soon be introduced.

The senior minister said efforts were being made to improve the power supply systems of HESCO and K-Electric. He remarked that the condition of the road from Hyderabad to Sukkur was so poor that one feels as though they would need to travel in an ambulance.

Responding to a question about the possible release of the founder of PTI, Memon said he prayed for his release. When asked about reports of changes in the Sindh government, he said such discussions were circulating only on YouTube.
