KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) Sindh Solid Waste Management board (SSWMB), Friday organized a capacity building training for the employees with specialized instruction regarding systematic waste management practices at Pakistan's first modern landfill site, along with awareness sessions on recycling and stress management.
Awareness sessions covered topics including organized waste management at modern landfill sites, recycling, stress management, transforming societal mindsets, prevention of workplace harassment, legal aid, and the rights of women and children, said a statement.
Managing Director SSWMB Tariq Ali Nizamani and SSWMB employees participated in capacity-building training.
On this occasion, briefings were delivered by MD Sindh Solid Waste Tariq Nizamani, Environment consultant (SSWMB) Farhan Lodhi, motivational speaker Aroosa Mohsin, environmental expert Anjeel Imdad, and social psychologist Tanveer Ishrat.
In addition to SSWMB officials, representatives and dignitaries from private companies across all seven districts of Sindh participated in the training.
The training aimed to enable staff to conduct sanitation operations in a systematic manner while also raising awareness about stress management and maintaining work-life balance.
During the workshop, participants engaged in yoga exercises, breathing techniques, and relaxation practices.
Furthermore, awareness was provided on shifting societal perspectives, preventing workplace harassment, accessing legal support, and protecting the rights of women and children.
Training was also delivered on recycling programs to ensure citizens receive optimal facilities and a pollution-free environment, with emphasis on effective implementation.
Participants were briefed on how to apply circular economy principles to enhance Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and accountability.
During the session, the MD Solid Waste shared his perspectives, stating that considering each district's unique characteristics, union councils, and population demographics, it is essential to improve work methodologies, waste management operations, inter-departmental coordination, and technical capabilities to drive positive change across the city.
He emphasized that seeking and implementing solutions to problems—rather than allowing issues to escalate—plays a vital role in the development and progress of any society.
All field officers and staff should possess comprehensive knowledge of their responsibilities; moreover, providing regular guidance and training on appropriate conduct toward colleagues and citizens can significantly enhance their professional capabilities, he noted.
He added, "We have been consistently delivering training over the past several years, yielding positive outcomes and improving monitoring standards.
Additionally, engagement with citizens is proving instrumental in shifting public attitudes.
These initiatives are crucial not only for maintaining a clean city but also for empowering and recognizing the capabilities of our workforce."
Following the session, shields were presented to the trainers by the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board in appreciation of their contributions.
