Court, in its verdict, also orders Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages to Ali Zafar
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 31st, 2026) A sessions court in Lahore on Tuesday ruled in favour of singer and actor Ali Zafar in a long-standing defamation case against actor and singer Meesha Shafi, declaring the allegations against him unsubstantiated.
The court, in its verdict, also ordered Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages to Ali Zafar.
The case dates back to when Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of harassment on social media. In response, Ali Zafar filed a defamation suit, maintaining that the allegations had harmed his reputation. After prolonged proceedings, the sessions court has now decided the matter in his favour.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court had upheld restrictions on Meesha Shafi from making statements on social media related to the case and dismissed her plea seeking removal of the restriction.
In a detailed ruling, Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad had observed that while freedom of expression is a fundamental right, it cannot be exercised in a manner that damages the dignity and reputation of others.
The verdict has brought the high-profile case back into the spotlight, triggering varied reactions on social media.
