Karachi police have arrested six suspects, including the main accused, in connection with a high-profile burglary at a jewellery shop in Orangi Town, where gold and diamonds worth approximately Rs300 million were stolen.
According to police reports, the suspects gained entry by breaking through the rear wall of a shop located in Iqbal Market. The burglars reportedly stole 606 tolas of gold and diamonds valued at around Rs2.5 million. A formal case was registered at Iqbal Town Police Station following the incident.
Shop owner Ayub Khan told authorities that the shop had been closed as usual on the night of February 12. When it reopened on the morning of February 14, several jewellery boxes were found empty. He discovered a hole in the back wall, indicating forced entry, and upon inventory checks, multiple gold ornaments were confirmed missing.
Police launched an immediate investigation, tracing the suspects using CCTV footage from the area. Within 48 hours, authorities arrested the main suspect along with five accomplices and recovered the stolen gold, mobile phones, and other items.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar praised the swift action, stating that the gold was recovered in less than two days. He commended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West Tariq Mastoi and his team for conducting a professional operation that restored public confidence.
Lanjar also reaffirmed that the Sindh government was taking all possible measures to ensure the safety of citizens and protect property, highlighting the police’s commitment to curbing crime and maintaining law and order.
