Solar home system project launched in Khairpur, Larkana, Qamabar- Shahdakot & Shikarpur districts

SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) The Sindh Government’s Solar Home Systems (SHS) Project was inaugurated across four districts on Thursday, with the Khairpur ceremony drawing several lawmakers, officials and local beneficiaries.

The project, launched by the Sindh Energy Department under its Special Initiatives for Renewable Energy, aims to distribute 275,000 solar kits free of cost to low-income households in on-grid and off-grid areas. Of these, 132,000 are off-grid solar systems and 143,000 are on-grid systems. The Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) is implementing the distribution.

In Khairpur, MPA Barrister Halar Khan Wassan, MPA Barrister Sheeraz Shaukat Rajpar and former MNA Nawab Khan Wassan distributed mock solar kits to local beneficiaries.

Addressing the gathering, they said the provincial government was committed to public welfare through sustainable energy initiatives, adding that the solar kit distribution was part of a broader developmental roadmap with several other infrastructure and social projects underway across Sindh.

Additional Secretary Energy Sindh Junaid Iqbal Khan, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Altaf Chachar, SRSO Regional General Manager Aamir Abbas Mangi, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, District Manager SRSO, Akram Shaikh, district officers and media representatives were also present.

The ceremony was among four simultaneous district-level events held in Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur and Khairpur Mirs, each with around 100 eligible beneficiaries in attendance.

Elected representatives, Energy Department officials, district administration, women’s community institutions, media and SRSO teams attended the ceremonies. The project targets households across Sindh through a defined selection process to provide reliable and affordable energy solutions.

It is mentioned over here that the each Solar Home System kit comprises a 180-watt solar panel, a DC fan, three LED lights, a charge controller, a mobile charging facility, and a 50 Ah lithium battery with an inverter, designed to meet basic household energy needs.
