Solarization campaign in Punjab jails in full swing

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Jun, 2026) The Punjab government has accelerated the process of installing solar systems in the province's jails as part of its austerity campaign. In this regard, the work of installing a solar system has been started in Kot Lakhpat Jail here, which has been targeted to be completed by June 30.

According to official sources, solar systems have already been installed and activated in four jails of Punjab. These include Central Jail Mianwali, Central Jail Faisalabad, Central Jail Dera Ghazi Khan and Sub-Jail Pindi Bhattian.

According to officials, after the completion of the project in Kot Lakhpat Jail, a solar system will also be installed in the camp jail to further reduce electricity costs.

The jail authorities said that the aim of installing solar systems in jails is to reduce the financial burden on the government exchequer and promote alternative sources of energy.

According to him, about Rs 500 million is expected to be saved from the use of solar systems during the next financial year.
