SPA disposes of over 12,000 tons of waste during Eid operation

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) The Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi disposed of more than 12,000 tons of waste across Rawalpindi district during the three days of Eid-ul-Azha, resolving all 1,500 complaints received from citizens.

The large-scale cleanliness operation, which started on the eve of Eid, continued for four consecutive days and was completed successfully.

According to the District Administration, all temporary transfer stations were dismantled after the waste was removed and subsequently washed with rose water. At the same time, large quantities of lime were sprinkled to eliminate germs and foul odours.

Similarly, pits excavated at dumping sites were filled with soil and disinfected with lime after completion of the operation.

Speaking to the media, Member National Assembly, Tahira Aurangzeb said the Eid cleanliness campaign had been launched at the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Describing the drive as a practical manifestation of the “Clean Punjab” vision, she said the entire sanitation team deserved appreciation for ensuring exemplary cleanliness arrangements across Rawalpindi.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak said citizens were provided with a clean environment during Eid-ul-Azha through effective monitoring, prompt response and modern waste management strategies.

Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi and Chairman of the Clean Punjab Agency, Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, said all public complaints had been addressed promptly, and no area had been allowed to remain polluted during the operation.

Managing Director SPA Rawalpindi Rana Sajid Safdar visited various parts of the city on the third day of Eid, met sanitation workers and distributed sweets among them.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Abdul Rehman Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Maleeha Sahar, Assistant Commissioner City Iman Zafar, Assistant Commissioner Saddar Malik Hakim Khan and Assistant Commissioner Cantt Saadur Rehman also monitored cleanliness operations in their respective areas.

More than 6,340 sanitation workers and 1,066 vehicles and machines remained engaged in the Eid cleanliness campaign, while leave for all staff members had been cancelled during the operation.
