SPAL completes Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness operation

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) The Suthra Punjab Authority has successfully completed a swift, exemplary and large-scale cleanliness operation across Punjab during all three days of Eid-ul-Adha, setting a new benchmark by outperforming its previous sanitation operation records.

The heroes of Suthra Punjab broke all previous cleanliness records through efficient service delivery in every street and neighbourhood across the province, said a press release issued here on Friday.

The dedicated sanitation staff deployed for the grand Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness operation became a top trend on Twitter and social media across Pakistan. Citizens paid tribute to the sanitation workers who remained active in the field continuously for 72 hours during the cleaning operation.

From Eid eve (Chand Raat) till the 3rd day of Eid, more than 365,000 tonnes of animal offals were timely disposed of across Punjab, including Lahore. For the Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness operation, 40,000 machinery units of Suthra Punjab, along with 12,000 additional loader rickshaws and pickup vehicles, took part in the drive across the province. More than 7,000 additional machines were used for the timely clearance of temporary collection points, while cleanliness operational vehicles travelled over 6 million kilometres in public service during the sanitation operation.

A total of 184,000 sanitation heroes of Suthra Punjab worked day and night continuously for 72 hours, setting a new example of cleanliness across Punjab. Special cleaning and washing arrangements were ensured at 6,500 Mosques and Eidgahs across the province.

More than 12 million environment-friendly waste bags were distributed free of cost among citizens across Punjab.

For the convenience of citizens, 4,500 Eid camps and 7,000 temporary waste collection camps were established throughout the province. Special sanitation teams were deployed at 1,278 collective slaughter sites across Punjab.

The entire grand Eid operation was monitored through Suthra Punjab’s digital dashboards, which received more than one terabyte of data from 74,000 users.

More than 41,000 citizens contacted the 1139 helpline and citizen app for guidance and timely collection of animal waste.

The sanitation staff reached the field at 2am on Eidul Azha eve (Chand Raat) for the grand Eid cleanliness operation. Before Eid prayers, rose water and phenyl-mixed water was sprayed around Eidgahs and Jamia Mosques.

A special cleanliness operation for the timely collection of offal continued uninterrupted from house to house, street to street and neighbourhood to neighbourhood across Punjab.

On the 1st day of Eid, 125,000 tonnes of waste were disposed of, while more than 112,000 tonnes were removed on the 2nd day, over 70,000 tonnes on the 3rd day, and 54,000 tonnes of waste were disposed of on Chand Raat.

To prevent foul smell and maintain cleanliness, continuous spraying of phenyl-mixed water and washing activities remained underway throughout the province.

After the removal of offal, special washing and disinfection operations were completed at all collective slaughter sites, markets, streets and main roads across Punjab.

To keep roads, neighbourhoods and slaughter sites free from foul smell, 2.1 million kilograms of lime, 40,000 litres of rose water and 150,000 litres of phenyl were used during the cleaning operation. Modern drone cameras were used to assist enforcement teams in monitoring people dumping offal into canals, streams and open places, while Safe City cameras were also utilised to monitor streets, neighbourhoods and key locations across the province.

Officers and staff remained especially active in hotspot areas.

Suthra Punjab officers met sanitation workers in the field, distributed Eid gifts and sweets among them, and appreciated their performance, saying that the workers are the real heroes who sacrificed their own Eid celebrations to make the festival pleasant for citizens.

Citizens across Punjab termed the cleanliness arrangements historic and praised the performance of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Suthra Punjab teams. The Punjab government also thanked citizens for their cooperation, which helped ensure a clean and pleasant environment throughout the province.
