PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Babar Saleem Swati on Tuesday reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening media relations and enhancing the professional capacity of parliamentary reporters, saying a free and responsible press is vital for democracy and transparency.

A delegation of the KP Assembly Press Gallery, led by its President Gulzar Khan, General Secretary Rasool Dawar and Coordinator Arsalan Junaid, called on the Speaker at the Assembly Secretariat.

During the meeting, the Press Gallery leadership thanked the Speaker for arranging a training workshop for Press Gallery members in Nathiagali, terming it a valuable initiative for the professional development of parliamentary reporters.

On the occasion, the delegation also presented a commemorative shield to the Speaker in recognition of his continued support for journalists covering the provincial legislature.

Speaker Babar Saleem Swati assured the delegation of his full cooperation and support for members of the Press Gallery. He said parliamentary reporters played a vital role as a bridge between the legislature and the public by ensuring accurate and informed reporting.

He further said that strengthening the capacity of journalists through training and exposure visits would help improve the quality of reporting and reinforce democratic institutions. He added that the assembly would continue to facilitate media representatives in performing their professional duties.

The Speaker also directed the relevant authorities to make arrangements for a recreational and study tour for Press Gallery members to Naran coming month, aimed at providing further opportunities for learning, exposure and professional engagement.
