Special 16-day anti-dengue drive launched in Potohar Town

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jul, 2026) The Health and Population Department to launch an intensive, targeted anti-dengue sweeping operation across six high-risk peri-urban union councils in Potohar Town starting from July 14, to suppress vector breeding ahead of the peak transmission season.

In an interaction with APP, Dr. Jawad informed that the localized containment strategy aims to protect over 131,000 households through rigorous indoor and outdoor vector surveillance, larviciding, and source reduction.

"The absolute operational focus will be deployed across designated critical areas, including Dhoke Munshee targeting 26,119 houses, Kotha Kallan with 21,597 houses, Dhama Syedan with 16,987 houses, Dhamyal with 25,191 houses, Chak Jilal Din with 21,855 houses, and Girja targeting 20,132 houses", he said.

The 16-day campaign sets field targets based on historical epidemiological data to intercept larval development cycles across the region.

Health department records show the six union councils collectively accounted for a significant patient burden over the last three years, registering 766 cases in 2023, 1,796 cases in 2024, and 328 cases in 2025.

"Special teams will conduct comprehensive environmental management to eliminate potential breeding sites at 4,448 priority spots in Dhoke Munshee, 3,330 spots in Kotha Kallan, 1,866 spots in Dhama Syedan, 2,788 spots in Dhamyal, 5,466 spots in Chak Jilal Din and 3,029 spots in Girja.
