MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Mar, 2026) Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahu said that a special package for mango value addition was under consideration to enhance exports and improve the sector’s profitability.
He expressed these views while chairing a consultative session in Multan, attended by mango growers, exporters, value addition industry representatives and other stakeholders.
Iftikhar Ali Sahu said mango is the identity of South Punjab and Pakistani mango holds a prominent position in international markets due to its unique taste and quality. He added that special measures were being taken to uplift the mango sector.
He said the government is focusing on increasing profitability through improved production, value addition and exports, adding that stakeholders’ input is being incorporated into policymaking.
The secretary added that only high-quality mangoes could compete in premium global markets, stressing the need to meet international standards.
He further said practical proposals regarding mango value addition would be forwarded to the leadership, while efforts would also be made to promote exports of dried mango and mango pulp.
He emphasized ensuring the production of mangoes free from harmful metals and chemical contamination to meet export requirements.
