Special meeting reviews arrangements for Ramazan Bazaars, relief measures in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Feb, 2026) A special meeting to review arrangements for Ramazan Bazaars, cart markets and Dastarkhwans during the holy fasting month was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Hassan Tariq.

All assistant commissioners of the district, in-charge Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA), market committee officials and representatives of relevant departments attended the meeting.

Addressing the participants, the additional deputy commissioner said the Punjab Government was taking all possible steps to provide essential food items to the public at subsidised rates during the Holy Month of Ramazan. He said the Ramazan Bazaars would offer vegetables, fruits, flour, sugar, pulses, ghee and other essential commodities at reduced prices to ensure meaningful relief for citizens.

He directed that Ramazan Bazaars and Dastarkhwans be established in all tehsils of Rawalpindi district, including Rawalpindi, Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan and Taxila. The assistant commissioners were instructed to personally supervise arrangements in their respective tehsils and ensure that no negligence occurred in providing facilities to the public.

Dr Tariq said prices in Ramazan Bazaars and the open market would be strictly monitored and a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against overcharging, hoarding and profiteering. Price control magistrates were directed to conduct

daily market inspections and take indiscriminate action against violators.

He issued clear instructions that all price magistrates would remain present in markets from morning until night to continuously monitor prices, quality and availability. In case of any violation, they were told to immediately contact their respective assistant commissioners to ensure prompt legal action against overcharging and hoarding.

The meeting also directed relevant departments to work under a coordinated strategy for sanitation, security, traffic management and public facilitation to ensure maximum relief and convenience for citizens during Ramazan.
