Speeding truck claims toddler’s life, injures seven in Lahore

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jul, 2026) A one-and-a-half-year-old girl was killed and seven others were injured when a speeding truck hit them near Lahore Bridge in the Kot Lakhpat area on Sunday.

According to City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) spokesperson, the deceased was identified as Dua Fatima, aged one-and-a-half years. The injured included Uzma, 40; Dilawar, 35; Fazilat, 29; Noor Fatima, 15; Anas, 13; Meerab, 9; and Abdullah, 4. Rescue teams shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the body of the deceased child was moved to the morgue.

According to preliminary police investigations, the accident occurred due to overspeeding.

Following the incident, an angry mob caught the truck driver, identified as Qasim, and attempted to assault him. Lahore Traffic Police wardens intervened promptly, rescued the driver from the crowd, took him into custody and later handed him over to Kot Lakhpat Police.

Police have registered a case against the driver and launched further investigation.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi urged motorists to strictly observe traffic laws, adhere to prescribed speed limits and exercise caution while driving, warning that even a brief moment of negligence could lead to tragic loss of life.
