QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Balochistan’s strategic development and welfare initiatives are rapidly progressing toward completion, with significant achievements reported across multiple sectors.
This was highlighted during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan, where ongoing projects and reform measures were reviewed in detail.
Officials briefed the meeting on the People’s Train Service, noting that the train’s bogies have been fully prepared and operations are expected to formally inaugurated on August 14.
The project is seen as a milestone in providing improved travel facilities to the public.
In the education sector, 2,100 new community schools have been established across the province, bringing more than 136,000 out-of-school children back into the education system.
Progress in healthcare was also reported, with Balochistan surpassing other provinces in routine immunization. The province has successfully achieved 94 percent of its targets, marking a major accomplishment in public health.
The meeting reviewed energy initiatives, particularly off-grid projects aimed at providing affordable electricity to remote districts. Plans are underway to involve the private sector, with proposals to reduce costs by up to 50 percent.
On security and urban facilities, it was revealed that eight major cities in Balochistan are set to be declared “Safe Cities” by June 30, significantly strengthening urban security systems.
For clean water supply, the installation of 1,255 filtration plants across 900 union councils is in progress, with directives issued to accelerate implementation to ensure safe drinking water for citizens.
The Chief Minister Youth Skills Development Program has also advanced, with 620 candidates selected and issued work visas, creating new employment opportunities for young people.
In the irrigation sector, work is rapidly continuing on five dams, expected to irrigate over 42,000 acres of land upon completion, boosting agricultural productivity.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan reaffirmed that timely completion of development projects is the government’s top priority.
He stressed that transparency and quality will not be compromised in welfare initiatives.
He noted that reforms in energy, education, and health are already yielding positive results, while inter-departmental coordination is further accelerating progress.
He directed all departments to ensure continuous monitoring of projects so that set targets are achieved within deadlines, underscoring that effective governance and development are essential for the welfare of the people of Balochistan.
