MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th May, 2026) Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said strengthening the democratic and constitutional process through collaboration among all political forces was essential for ensuring lasting political stability in the country.
Talking to journalists before offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the historic Musa Pak Shrine,he urged political parties to evolve consensus on a “meaningful relief package” in the upcoming Federal budget to ease public hardship.
Referring to the debate on creation of new provinces,Gilani said the stance of the Pakistan Peoples Party and its chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had already been made public, adding that such sensitive matters must be addressed through dialogue and consultation among all political stakeholders.
Condemning the recent surge in terrorism, particularly in Balochistan, the Senate chairman said militancy was once again destabilising the country and stressed that no concessions should be granted to terrorists at any level.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan Army personnel, saying the nation remained united in its resolve against terrorism.
On foreign policy,Gilani lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in easing tensions between Iran and the United States and reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to regional peace.

Regarding development in South Punjab,Gilani claimed the PPP had prioritized the region in terms of development funding, while emphasizing the need for transparency and effective utilization of resources.
He clarified that any proposed constitutional amendments, including references to a 28th Amendment, would be pursued strictly through constitutional and parliamentary consultation, rejecting notions of backdoor deals.
Responding to a query,he said parliamentarians’ Primary responsibility was legislation, while local bodies should address civic issues at the grassroots level.
However, he added that resolving public grievances remained the shared responsibility of all democratic institutions.
In his Eid message,Gilani urged citizens to remember the underprivileged during celebrations and extend support to vulnerable segments of society.
He also offered prayers for national solidarity, Pakistan’s defence, and the “liberation of Kashmir and Palestine from oppressive forces.”
