LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th May, 2026) Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has said that student societies play a vital role in developing students’ knowledge, confidence, professional competencies and positive thinking.
He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a three-day All Pakistan Media Fest, organised by the Pioneer Media Society under the Department of Student Affairs at Faisal Auditorium here on Monday.
German Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Ms Ina Lepel, Registrar Dr Ahmad islam, DG SES Prof. Dr Rehan Sadiq Shaikh, Director Student Affairs Dr Shahzeb Khan, Director Institute of education Research Prof. Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry, Chairperson Department of Archaeology Dr Ifqat Mahar, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor said that alongside formal academic learning, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are indispensable for holistic student development. He said such initiatives not only enhance skills but also prepare students to meet professional challenges with confidence.
Prof. Dr Muhammad Ali noted that the three-day Media Fest features a wide range of academic, cultural and creative activities, including musical performances, mushaira, panel discussions, documentary screenings, short film competitions and other media-related events.
He appreciated the efforts of Director Student Affairs Dr Shahzeb Khan, stating that under his leadership, student societies at Punjab University are gaining recognition and projecting a positive image of the institution at national and international levels. He also commended the student society for successfully arranging funding for such a large-scale event.
According to organisers, more than 350 students from universities across Pakistan are participating in 13 competitions during the Media Fest, providing them with a platform to demonstrate their creativity, talent and media skills. The event also includes Sufi night, Sufi performances, dinners and networking opportunities aimed at promoting cultural exchange and experiential learning.
