SU transport committee reviews fuel costs, proposes hybrid classes

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Apr, 2026) A meeting of the Transport Committee of the University of Sindh was held under the chair of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Mari to deliberate on measures to reduce the financial burden caused by the recent increase in petroleum prices.

The meeting reviewed various options aimed at minimizing expenditure on diesel used by point buses that transport students to and from the campus. Participants discussed ways to rationalize transport operations while ensuring that students’ academic activities were not adversely affected.

During the deliberations, it was proposed that physical classes may be conducted three days a week, totaling around 12 days in a month, while the fourth day of the week could be utilized for online classes.

The proposal was presented as a possible measure to reduce fuel consumption and manage university resources more efficiently.

The committee members noted that the cost of operating transport services had increased significantly due to the surge in fuel prices. It was pointed out that the expenditure, which earlier covered around 20 days of transport services per month, was now being incurred within approximately 12 days.

The SU spokesperson Nadir Ali Mugheri told “APP” that after discussing the matter in detail, the committee evolved a tentative proposal aimed at controlling the rising transport costs. The Vice-Chancellor said the matter would be placed before a meeting of vice-chancellors scheduled to be held on April 8, where a broader policy decision could be considered.
