MIRANSHAH:
At least three people, including an 8-year-old girl, were killed and several others injured in separate explosion incidents in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's (K-P) Lakki Marwat and Bajaur districts on Friday. In Lakki Marwat, a suicide blast near a mosque in the remote area of Khera Khel Pakka claimed two lives and left multiple people wounded. According to police and rescue officials, the explosion occurred close to a mosque when a large number of worshippers had gathered for Friday prayers. A spokesperson for Rescue 1122, Shahidab Khan, said that upon receiving information, ambulances and medical teams were immediately dispatched to the site. The deceased and injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. The victims were identified as eight-year-old Asma Bibi and 25-year-old Asad Ali. A police official said initial investigations suggest that the suicide attacker attempted to approach the mosque on a motorcycle loaded with explosives. However, local villagers intervened and tried to stop him, opening fire and killing the attacker before he could reach his intended target. During the confrontation, the attacker detonated the explosives, triggering a powerful blast. Police confirmed that at least five people, including children, were injured in the incident. Several of the injured are said to be in critical condition and are receiving medical treatment. Following the blast, panic spread across the area, while security forces and law enforcement agencies cordoned off the site and began collecting evidence. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the attack. In a separate incident in Bajaur district, a 60-year-old man was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Targao Barang area. According to police, the deceased was identified as Shahzada Mian, son of Zar Syed Mian. His body was shifted to Khar Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Deputy Superintendent of Police Saeedur Rehman confirmed that investigations into the IED explosion are underway from multiple angles. He said that security personnel reached the scene soon after the blast, cordoned off the area, and started collecting evidence. Officials said the nature and motive behind the Bajaur explosion are being thoroughly examined. (WITH INPUT FROM OUR CORRESPONDENTS IN BAJAUR AND LAKKI MARWAT)
