Syndicate okays promotions, key appointments, campus uplift plan

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Mar, 2026) The University of Sindh’s syndicate at its 212th meeting in Jamshoro district on Saturday approved a series of academic and administrative decisions, including promotions, key appointments and measures aimed at improving campus infrastructure and student facilities.

The meeting was held at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Convention Centre and it was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri.

Secretary Universities and Boards Department Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Syed Sohail Akbar Shah, Prof Asif Kazi, Prof Dr Javed Chandio, Prof Dr Lachhaman Das Dhomeja, Prof Dr Arfana Mallah, Benazir Junejo, Prof Dr Abdul Ahad Abro and other syndicate members attended.

The VC highlighted ongoing development initiatives and expressed gratitude to the Sindh government for its support for the repair and rehabilitation of internal roads and hostel infrastructure.

He said those efforts were vital for improving the overall campus environment and enhancing student facilities.

Marri also informed the forum that the provincial government had assured support for the development of Dr NA Baloch Model school Hyderabad and Syed Panah Ali Shah Model School Jamshoro, underscoring its commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and outreach.

The syndicate deliberated on a range of academic, administrative and human resource matters.

It approved the recommendations of the selection board for the promotion of various officers, recognizing their performance and contributions.

The body also granted lien and extraordinary leave to some faculty members in line with rules, enabling them to pursue academic and research opportunities.

Additionally, it approved the compulsory retirement of two faculty members.

The meeting finalized key academic appointments including the appointments of Prof Dr Tariq Hussain Umrani as Director of the Institute of English Language and Literature and Prof Dr Zulfiqar Haider Zaidi as Chairman of the Department of Public Administration for 3-year terms.

Members expressed confidence that these appointments would strengthen academic leadership and contribute to the university’s teaching and research profile.
