Tajik embassy in Islamabad marks 29th "National Unity Day" with tribute to Peace, stability, Progress

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan commemorated the 29th anniversary of the National Unity Day of the Republic of Tajikistan with a solemn ceremony attended by members of the Tajik community residing in Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda, congratulated participants on the historic occasion and highlighted the enduring significance of National Unity Day in shaping modern Tajikistan.

The Ambassador said the signing of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord on June 27, 1997, marked a turning point in the country's history by bringing an end to conflict and laying the foundation for lasting peace, political stability, national reconciliation, and sustainable development.

The Ambassador paid tribute to the historic role of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation and President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, for his visionary leadership in restoring peace and guiding the nation toward stability and progress. Ambassador Sharifzoda noted that President Rahmon's strong political will, commitment to dialogue, and tireless efforts enabled Tajikistan to overcome the consequences of civil war and embark on a path of unity, prosperity, and state-building.

Describing National Unity as one of the country's greatest achievements since independence, the Ambassador stressed that preserving and strengthening this unity remains a sacred responsibility of every citizen.

He encouraged Tajik compatriots living abroad to continue promoting their country's positive image by demonstrating patriotism, respecting national values, and contributing to the reputation and development of their homeland.

The Ambassador also highlighted Tajikistan's growing international role in promoting global peace.

He referred to the recent adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution titled "International Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036)," initiated by Tajikistan. He said the resolution reflects the international community's recognition of Tajikistan as a peace-loving nation and an active advocate for global peace and cooperation.

He emphasized that Tajikistan's successful experience in achieving peace and national reconciliation offers valuable lessons for the international community, while its peace initiatives within the United Nations continue to enhance the country's standing on the global stage.

Concluding his address, Ambassador Sharifzoda urged participants to continue safeguarding peace and stability, strengthening national unity, upholding the values of statehood, and contributing to the continued development and prosperity of an independent Tajikistan.

The ceremony also featured the screening of a documentary highlighting Tajikistan's peace building journey, the achievements made under National Unity, and the leadership's role in consolidating peace and stability.

The documentary attracted keen interest from attendees and underscored the importance of preserving harmony for future generations.

The event concluded with a cultural gathering held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, where participants exchanged views on Tajikistan's progress since independence and the importance of National Unity. Guests were also treated to a traditional Tajik 'dastarkhan', reflecting the country's rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality.
