PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Three detained suspects were killed when their accomplices in an attempt to get them free, opened fire on a police party near the Northern Bypass area of Peshawar on Thursday.
According to police, the incident occurred when a police team from Machani Gate Police Station was transporting the suspects. Unknown motorcyclists suddenly opened fire on the police vehicle, killing the three detainees identified as Muhammad Shoaib, Muhammad Umar alias Wajahat and Muhammad Imad.
The Station House Officer (SHO) and other police personnel remained safe due to their bulletproof jackets and helmets, officials said. However, the police mobile vehicle was damaged in the attack. The attackers managed to escape from the scene.
Police launched a search operation in different areas to arrest the fleeing assailants.

Police said the dead suspects were wanted in several cases related to bank robberies, murder and terrorism. They were allegedly involved in bank robbery incidents on Kohat Road and Warsak Road, during which a security guard and an Additional SHO were killed.
Police further stated that three pistols used in criminal activities were recovered on the identification of the suspects.
SP Warsak Muhammad Arshad Khan reached the scene along with heavy police contingents and supervised the security measures.
Police have assured that the attackers involved in the firing incident will soon be arrested.
