Traffic police intensify crackdown on transporters overcharging passengers despite fuel price reduction

ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jun, 2026) The Traffic Police Abbottabad have intensified their crackdown against transporters charging excessive fares from passengers despite the recent reduction in petroleum product prices.

According to a spokesperson on Sunday, the ongoing campaign is being carried out on the special directives of SSP Traffic Abbottabad Muhammad Ishtiaq. Under the supervision of DSPs across all traffic circles, strict inspections of public transport vehicles operating on both intra-city and inter-district routes are underway.

During the operations, traffic officials checked public transport vehicles to ensure compliance with the government-approved fare schedule.

Drivers found violating the official fare list, overcharging passengers, or committing other traffic violations were issued challans, while legal action was also taken against several vehicles.

SSP Traffic Muhammad Ishtiaq directed all field officers to ensure strict implementation of the notified fare structure and warned that no transporter would be allowed to exploit passengers by charging unjustified fares.

He said the Traffic Police would continue its enforcement campaign to protect commuters' rights and ensure that the benefits of reduced fuel prices are passed on to the public.
