PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Apr, 2026) A day-long training session aimed at strengthening gender-responsive policing was held here on Wednesday where 19 female police officers received capacity-building support to effectively handle cases of violence against women and girls.

The session, organised at a local hotel, was focused on professional and sensitive police response to cases involving gender-based violence, domestic abuse and harassment at the workplace. Participants were engaged through lectures and interactive activities designed to enhance their skills in case handling and victim support.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Human Rights, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ghulam Ali, appreciated the initiative and said that although legislation existed in the province on issues such as gender-based violence, domestic abuse and workplace harassment, several challenges remained in ensuring its effective implementation.

He noted that the Human Rights Department, with the support of partners including United Nations Women, the German Embassy and Shirkat Gah, was making progress in addressing these challenges.

He expressed hope that trained female police personnel would play a key role in responding sensitively to cases of violence and in improving the processes of reporting and investigation.

Former provincial ombudsperson, Rukhsana Naz, while speaking to participants, emphasised the need for greater participation of women in institutions such as police, prosecution and judiciary. She said the role of female police officers was critical in preventing gender-based and domestic violence, adding that strengthening their capacity was the need of the hour.

At the conclusion of the session, Shirkat Gah’s provincial coordinator, Fauzia Ali, thanked the Human Rights Department, police and other stakeholders for their support and reiterated that prevention of gender-based and domestic violence required institutional collaboration and continuous capacity building of relevant personnel.
